As a group, we had to decide on what music to use in our trailer. To do this we looked at other paranormal horror films. We noticed that the trailer starts off with happy up beat music, it then suddenly turns into scary music. We had a soundtrack workshop with the school music teacher on how to make soundtracks using garageband. This gave us some good skills needed to make our soundtrack. Henry then took these skills and started to create the soundtrack to the film. We used the film 'Cabin in the woods' as our example for what we needed. At the beginning of the trailer, a guitar song is playing whilst everyone is seen to be very happy. Henry used garage band to make a short guitar track which we then used in the beginning of the film. This gives a happy feeling to the film and leaves the audiences wanting to know what the film is about. Midway through the trailer, the theme of the trailer takes a turn. We njoticed that a knife being sharpened is a common sound effect to show this change in atmosphere. We found this sound effect on the website FreeSFX and used it in our film. Henry then created a horror music soundtrack to use in the trailer. He used Garage band again and used a sort of marimba to create a eerie and scary type of soundtrack. For the fast paced editing period of the trailer, we noticed that it is a convention to use rhythmic editing. For example in the insidious trailer, the editing matches the speed of a metronome. We replicated this using a ladder step. We recorded the sound of Gill stepping on the ladder and edited it to make a continuous loop. We then timed the editing to change with each step. The sound also goes from quiet to loud this builds suspense and tension in the scene.
